A Different World Season 1 Blu-ray Box Set (2026 TV Series)

Set exactly 39 years after the original series premiere, the story centers on Deborah Wayne (played by Tony Award winner Maleah Joi Moon), the free-spirited, well-intentioned, yet fiercely independent youngest daughter of iconic couple Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy). Entering her freshman year at Hillman College, her parents’ legendary HBCU alma mater, Deborah finds herself struggling to escape their massive shadow while aiming to forge her own legacy. Joined by a stellar new group of Hillman’s brightest, including football prodigy Shaquille Johnson (Cornell Young IV)—the son of Ron Johnson—and her outspoken roommate Rashida (Alijah Kai), Deborah navigates midterms, homecomings, social justice issues, and messy romantic entanglements.
Balancing sharp contemporary Gen-Z storylines with heartfelt nostalgia, this season features unforgettable special guest mentor appearances from the beloved original cast, including Cree Summer as tenured Professor Freddie Brooks, alongside Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison. Directed by the legendary Debbie Allen and created by Felicia Pride, this series captures the full-hearted verve, energy, and style of modern college life.
